The Economic Services Bureau (DSE) said in a statement on Friday that the second phase of the government’s consumption subsidy smartcard scheme injected around 790 million patacas into the local economy in 20 days.

According to the statement, up to last Thursday 610,000 residents had topped-up their existing smartcards to 5,000 patacas. The bureau also gave out 19,000 new cards.

The statement said that in the first 20 days of the subsidy scheme, over 7.7 million transactions were made. The statement noted that 22.9 percent of the money was spent in restaurants and 19.6 percent was spent in retail outlets, while around 8 percent was spent on electronics.

Currently, according to the statement, the scheme comprises 190 top-up service spots and six card registration and collection centres. However, starting on September 1, residents who did not pick up their card in the first phase starting in April can only obtain their card at four government offices, namely the Economic Services Bureau’s office in Largo do S. Domingos, the Government Service Centres in Areia Preta and Taipa, and the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) office in Avenida de Sidónio Pais.
