An exhibition entitled “Flashfly Pictures” co-hosted by Stargate Technology (Macau) Co. Ltd., 10 Fantasia and the St. Lazarus Church District Creative Industries Promotion Association is on display at the 10 Fantasia gallery in São Lázaro district.
The event is sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM) and White Picture Productions Co. Ltd., according to information provided 10 Fantasia.
The exhibition showcases a total of 12 pictures which present how designers use the principles of Chinese lanterns to combine art, traditional crafts and modern technology to form pictures depicting the story of Macau, a statement by the co-organisers points out.
The exhibition aims to reveal the compatibility of ancient and modern engineering with traditional art, according to the statement.
The Chinese name of the exhibition means “Colourful Light Pictures”.
The exhibition is divided into two parts: the production process in one hall and the finished work in the other hall. The production process segment shows how designers make use of traditional techniques and modern technology to turn lanterns into “flashfly pictures”. The finished work is to let the audience experience the artwork installed with special lighting effects.
The pictures were originally developed in Macau by Stargate Electronic Products Factory. The designers assembled the surplus LED lights from the factory to create the “flashfly pictures”. The pictures have been a cultural and creative souvenir supported by the Macau Cultural Industry Fund since 2017. In future, the designers hope to work with other local painters to promote the local creations worldwide, the statement underlines.
The exhibition runs until September 5 in two halls – A02 and C01 – at 10 Fantasia, which opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays) at 10, Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
Visitors are required to wear a facemask and apply hand sanitiser when entering the venue.
