The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that the exhibition “Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao from 2000 to 2022” will be inaugurated tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the Macau Museum of Art (MAM).

The statement noted that the exhibition and inauguration is organised by the bureau in conjunction with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong and is coordinated by MAM and the Guangdong Museum of Art.

The statement added that the exhibition features contemporary ink paintings, works of mixed media, animations, among others, and examines the evolution of ink art in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) over the past two decades. It debuted at the Guangdong Museum of Art in 2020 and, according to the statement, is the first exhibition that uses the GBA as “a case study of regional ink art”.

The exhibition is incorporated into the upcoming 32nd Macao Arts Festival (MAF) and is curated by art critic Pi Daojian. Around 80 pieces/sets of contemporary ink work from over 50 artists from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau are featured, the statement underlined.

The statement added that Pi will not be coming to Macau to deliver the previously scheduled talk “Contemporary Ink Art in the Digital Era” on Friday owing to COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures. The talk will be postponed and conducted online, with details to be announced in due course.

Various outreach activities will also be held during the exhibition period such as several workshops by participating artists for the Friends of MAM (all welcome), the statement noted. Further information can be found at www.MAM.gov.mo, while online registration will be available at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event

The exhibition runs until June 19, with guided tours in Cantonese available at 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from April 23. The museum is open daily, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last admission at 6:30 p.m.). Free admission.

In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) pandemic prevention measures, visitors must wear a facemask, undergo a temperature check, present a valid green Macau Health Code and scan the “Venue QR Code”, maintain social distancing and follow on-site measures.
