Woman hit by motorbike on pedestrian crossing seriously injured

An elderly woman was hit by a motorbike on a pedestrian crossing at about 2 p.m. yesterday in Rua da Riberia do Patane, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday.

According to the message, a man was riding his motorcycle from Avenida do Almirante Lacerda towards Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos, and when he got to Rua da Ribeira do Patane near Grandeur Heights residential estate at a traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing, his motorcycle hit a woman, who was seriously injured. The rider was also injured.

According to a follow-up statement from the Fire Services Bureau (CB), the motorcyclist is a 38-year-old local man who sustained multiple bruises. The statement described his condition as stable, adding that he was taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment.

The victim is a 73-year-old local woman who due to the accident vomited blood, suffered urinary incontinence, sustained a suspected fracture to her left forearm, bruises on her left ankle and was semi-conscious. She was accompanied by her family when she was rushed to the public hospital, according to the CB statement.

The Public Security Police (PSP) urged members of the public who witnessed the accident or are able to provide any information about it to call the Traffic Department on 28374214.
