Typhoon Saudel was moving north-westwards over the South China Sea yesterday and was expected to be closest to Macau today at a distance of 450 km, and with the presence of a northeast monsoon, the possibility of hoisting a Signal No. 3 was “relatively high”, the local weather station said late last night.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted the stand-by Signal No. 1 early yesterday evening, with the bureau saying late last night that it might be replaced with Signal No. 3 based on the situation before dawn today, as Saudel was heading towards Hainan at about 5 km/h.
The statement said that local winds would strengthen in the next few days, and the temperature was forecast to drop to 19 degrees Celsius today with a few patches of light rain.
