MGM held a “Healthy Workplace Happy Life” activity recently that was themed “Zero Work Injury, We All Have Responsibility” as part of its campaign to raise staff members’ awareness on occupational health and safety.

The activity, held with the support of Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and Women’s General Association of Macau, included seminars, design competitions, fitness classes and roadshows, to remind staff members of work safety and personal wellness.

MGM Human Resources Department Executive Vice President Wendy Yu said that the company has a special department that is in charge of evaluating risks and provides enhancement solutions for workplace safety to ensure a healthy and safe workplace for its employees.

In addition, in collaboration with DSAL, the company signed the Occupational Safety and Health Charter in 2017 and hosted “Hotel & Catering Occupational Safety Card” training in 2018, in which 5,300 staff members have participated.

According to Yu, as a result, the company recorded a significant decline in work injuries – an 11-percent drop last year, and a 59-percent drop this year.

“We will continue to communicate with all parties to achieve the goal of having zero work injuries,” Yu said.

For the recent activity, DSAL set up various health check booths and a seminar on spine care, which was to provide tips on preventing and improving the issue of long-term work fatigue.

Moreover, MGM also partnered with Women’s General Association of Macau and FAOM to host fitness classes of “Shoulder Cervical Spine Physiotherapy Yoga” and “Qigong Ba Duan Jin Experience” respectively. The latter, taught by trainers of FAOM, made its return after receiving an overwhelming response last year, enabled staff members to learn about the gentle yet effective movement sequence of Chinese Qigong to improve their physical condition.

The two-week roadshow took place at the back-of-house areas of both MGM properties, where the company’s Risk and Safety Management department has set up a booth to allow staff members learn more about the safety measures implemented around their workplace. – mgmpr
