A local Filipino punched his wife “due to lack of sleep”, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Suazo told the police that he works as a security guard. His wife is a local Filipina in her 30s. The couple, who live in the city centre, have two children.
According to Chan, the suspect’s wife reported to the police on September 15 that she had been attacked by her husband in the morning of that day.
She told the police that the couple’s income was down due to the COVID-19 epidemic so they dismissed their part-time domestic helper. Afterwards they had frequent quarrels about family matters and the victim reported one of the couple’s noisy arguments to the police in January.
On September 15, Suazo was off duty in the early hours and went home to sleep. The victim woke her husband up at about 8 a.m. and asked him to take the children to school. Suazo got angry due to lack of sleep and punched his wife in the face, injuring her eyes. The victim reported the case to the police after she had taken her daughter and son to school. The Judiciary Police dispatched officers to the victim’s home in the afternoon and took her husband in for questioning. According to Chan, Suazo admitted to punching his wife.
Suazo was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a charge of causing bodily harm, Chan said.
