The chief representative of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ Guangdong Office, Jimmy Lee Chong Cheng, said yesterday that his federation is cooperating with its Hong Kong counterpart by providing members of both federations with reciprocal welfare benefits and services, adding that his federation will further expand its collaboration with Guangdong’s trade unions soon with the aim of help members in integrate themselves into the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The GBA comprises nine cities in Guangdong province as well as the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.

The federation, commonly known in Cantonese as Gung Luen, held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony at its headquarters in Patane district yesterday, formalising its collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions on their members’ reciprocal welfare benefits and services.

According to a Gung Luen statement, both trade unions’ members now enjoy reciprocal welfare benefits and services, adding that Guangdong’s labour unions will join their collaboration arrangement in the near future. The statement said that 25 million people in the GBA were expected to benefit from the trilateral collaboration in the future.

Members of either federation would just need to show their membership card at the other federation’s offices or partnership shops in order to obtain the reciprocal welfare benefits and services.
