A painting exhibition entitled “Rebirth in the Spring Breeze” by mainland artist He Duoling is taking place at the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) in Nape.
It is co-organised by MAM and the He Duoling Museum in Chengdu in conjunction with the public Macau Foundation (FM) and Mountain Art Foundation in Beijing.
According to a statement provided by MAM, He was born in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province, in 1948. He studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute’s Department of Oil Painting and after graduating devoted himself to oil painting at Chengdu Art Academy.
He rose to fame in the 1980s and has become one of the best-known oil painting artists in China in the contemporary era, the statement said.
His works such as “Spring Winds have Awoken”, “Youth and The Crow is Beautiful” won a number of accolades at several National Fine Arts Exhibitions as well as a prize from the Monegasque government. “The works have brought a fresh visual experience to viewers and caused a sensation in the art scene,” the statement said.
He has developed his unique painting style by integrating the ideas and techniques of Chinese and Western paintings. “His works, acclaimed for the poetic quality rendered with exquisite finesse, evoke the simple yet splendid form of beauty in viewers’ minds,” the statement said.
The exhibition showcases 48 pieces/sets of sketches and oil paintings which cover various periods of He’s artistic pursuit, including last year’s work.
“He has always used poetic and lyrical language to express beauty and several exhibits of the Russian Forest series in the exhibition are the best testimony to his vigorous and endless creativity, which feature the portraits of Russian artists in dark forests, including Pushkin, Shostakovich and Akhmatova, manifesting the thrilling fiery creativity and spring breeze,” according to the statement.
The exhibition on the second floor of the museum at the Macau Cultural Centre complex in Avenida Xian Xing Hai runs until March 21. It opens daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (no admission after 6:30 p.m.). It is closed on Mondays but open on public holidays. Admission is free.
