A non-resident worker was arrested last Saturday for using his smartphone to film an upskirt of a woman when she was on an escalator at the Barrier Gate checkpoint, Public Security Police spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference this week.

The suspect is a mainlander surnamed Zhen who is in his forties and told the police that he works as a maintenance worker.

According to Lai, a man told the police at the Barrier Gate departure hall last Saturday night that he saw a man upskirting a woman when they were on the escalator at the hall. The witness saw that the man who was standing in front of him was behaving abnormally. He told the police that the man put his smartphone in a plastic bag and placed it on the stairs of the escalator and squatted behind a woman who was wearing a short skirt.

He suspected that the man was filming the woman and immediately caught him and took him to the police at the scene.

Thanks to the checkpoint’s CCTV footage as well as the smartphone in the plastic bag seized by the police, PSP officers discovered two upskirt video clips of the woman on Zhen’s smartphone.

However, the unsuspecting victim had already left Macau when the local police were investigating the case, Lai said.

Zhen was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Monday, facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Lai.
