A video of a group of local youths bullying a younger female pupil went viral on Wednesday and the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement yesterday vowed to follow-up on the matter.
According to the statement, the police became aware of the case on Wednesday evening and started to investigate on Wednesday night.
In the video, a group of youths, some wearing school uniforms and some wearing casual wear, surround a schoolgirl. The video shows that the youngsters taking turns to slap the schoolgirl.
The PSP urged youths not to bully or hurt another physically. They warned that physically hurting someone could result in legal consequences.
The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) also said in a statement that the bureau has contacted the school or schools that that the youths seen in the video are attending. According to the statement, the bureau has arranged counselling for the victim of the case.
The statement did not say how old the victim is.
The bureau reminded youngsters to “think about the consequences before acting”. It also stressed that the victims and witnesses of such cases should always report bullying cases to the authorities, adding that deliberately causing physical injuries to someone could lead to serious legal consequences.
The age of criminal responsibility in Macau stands at 16.
