An exhibition of local brand No.42 by local designers Ophelia Vong Si Weng and Venus Tou Wai In is on display at the Macau Fashion Gallery (MFG) as part of the “2020 Brand Story – Macau Original Fashion Exhibition V” in conjunction with the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM).

According to a CPTTM statement, the exhibition series provides participants with the opportunity to showcase their brands in their own creative styles and their brands’ concepts as well as to “spread the charm of the very original local brands to the public.”

The “Brand Story” series was launched in 2017 and five local brands have been selected for this year’s exhibition – Lexx Moda, Nega C., ZICS, FAITH & FEARLESS, and NO.42. The designs are to be showcased in five phases, with one brand being featured in each phase, according to the statement.

The fifth phase of the exhibition features fashion label “No.42” founded by Vong and Tou who graduated from the Department of Fashion Design of Shih Chien University, Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, both majoring in Fashion Design and Merchandising.

As college students, the duo worked for fashion shows as activity assistants in Macau and Taiwan and coordinated the design and layout of venues for static exhibitions of graduation work. After they returned to Macau, they set up a studio with the brand “No.42” in 2019 as an extension of their interest and passion for fashion design, according to the exhibition brochure.

No.42 is a local fashion design brand that values “freedom from restraints and life with an attitude”, the brochure points out, adding that Vong and Tou believe everyone has “multiple personalities” and that clothes are media in which one’s ideas and feelings can be expressed. The theme of the exhibition is “Where’s my soul?”, according to which the two designers are delivering messages about their process of searching for the pursuit of their life journey through their designs. The background design of the exhibition venue uses lines to draw different “roads”, symbolising a journey of exploration of the soul, according to the brochure.

The design of the brand is one that features asymmetrical tailoring and the use of fabrics of different textures to create interwoven patterns, as well as beautiful details to make styles of all kinds, the brochure underlines.

The exhibition runs until December 31 at the Macau Fashion Gallery at 47, Rua de S. Roque in S. Lázaro district. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily (except Mondays). Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the gallery have to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.
