An art exhibition entitled “Autumn Moon Shines Over the Lake of Lingnan” (秋月平湖耀嶺南) by local artist Lee Chau Peng (李秋平), is being held at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) Gallery.
The event is organised by the Arts, Painting and Calligraphy Friendship Association of Macau (澳門書畫藝術聯誼會) and sponsored by the Henry Fok Foundation (霍英東基金會).
According to a statement on the gallery’s website, the title of the exhibition reflects Lee’s influence as a disciple of the artistic style of the Lingnan School of Painting. The exhibition showcases around 40 exhibits which merge the distinct arts of painting and calligraphy with a variety of themes, such as flowers and birds, fish and insects, and landscapes and other motifs, in addition to highlighting the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 22nd anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland. Lee’s calligraphy is mainly based on current and cursive scripts.
The statement points out that Lee, who was born into a Hakka family in 1959, began his career as an interior designer and graduated from the Hong Kong Institute of Design and Industry (香港政府設計工業學院). His passion for the arts already manifested itself during his childhood. He studied Chinese painting and calligraphy under his father’s guidance when he was just about six years old.
Lee’s academic path took him to the world of design and business management. He went on to Royal Roads University (RRU) in Canada, where he earnt a master’s degree in Business Administration, and then to Princeton University, where he got his PhD in Management Philosophy, as well as a PhD from Renmin University of China (RUC) in Business Administration.
The statement underlines that, at the age of 62, Lee’s tireless spirit is admirable, having been licensed and practising Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) since 1999.
The exhibition is being held until Saturday at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande daily until Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday it opens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
