Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Kevin Lam Hin San said earlier this month that in line with the government’s “Macau Land Transport Planning (2021-2030)”, according to which “the city’s vision and strategy of future transport policy is to create a safer, greener, efficient, convenient and accessible land transportation system”, he foresees that Macau’s fleet of public buses using new energy vehicles (NEVs) will exceed 90 percent of the total number by 2025, with the annual growth rate of all motor vehicles not exceeding 3 percent at that time.
According to a statement by the Macau Hotel Association on Thursday, Lam made the remarks during a regular meeting on September 11 with the association concerning the development of local transport.

The statement quoted Lam as pointing out that with the improvement of transport facilities at the city’s checkpoints, the total volume of passengers of cross-border coaches using the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) between the Macau and Hong Kong checkpoints from the beginning of this year to September 3 reached 7.9 million, involving 169,000 bus trips. The statement noted that the total number of passenger trips of cross-border buses between Macau and Hong Kong had reached 540,000 by September 3 since January 1, while the total number of passenger trips for Macau-Hong Kong Airport shuttle buses reached 12,300 between March 20 and September 3.
The statement underlined that during the meeting, Lam also encouraged the public to use the bureau’s mobile apps such as “Bus Travelling System” and “Macao Smart Go” to access real-time transport and tourism information, in order “to ease the pressure on the transportation system and facilitate a better plan to visit tourist attractions”.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn Wong Suk Yan, the chairman of General Assembly of the Macau Hotel Association, said during the one-day meeting she believed that the ongoing 10-year Land Transport Planning would help the tourism industry to move forward, according to the statement.
The statement noted that members of the association discussed the feasibility of implementing e-payment methods for Macau’s “black taxis”, among others.
