Judiciary Police spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference yesterday that a local couple were arrested on Tuesday after one of the suspects collected a parcel containing marijuana buds from a pickup point in Nam Van.

Ho said the two suspects are surnamed Leong and Lou, aged 31 and 28, respectively. Leong is a clerk working at an insurance company, while Lou said that she works in the marketing department of a local company.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police recently received a notification from Hong Kong customs regarding suspicious parcels addressed to Leong, which were being forwarded to Macau from North America. On Tuesday, when Leong attempted to collect the parcel in Nam Van, the PJ officers intercepted him and discovered six packages of marijuana buds wrapped in double-layered foil, disguised as fruit tea.

Subsequently, at the suspect’s apartment, the police found drug-taking paraphernalia, including a water pipe, and also arrested his girlfriend, Lou.

The police seized a total of 117.4 grams of marijuana buds, with an estimated street value of 117,000 patacas.

Under questioning, both admitted to having a history of drug use. However, subsequent drug tests yielded negative results.

The couple have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), both facing drug related charges.
