Hundreds of drones took to the sky over Nam Van Lake last night to present the second set of shows for the “Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022”, themed “Fun-tastic Summer”, with some of the spectators telling The Macau Post Daily that they found the shows entertaining.

“It’s a getaway. It gives you a chance to get out of the moment, you know, forget everything and come and sit for a while and look forward to something”, a couple surnamed Gouse, who are permanent residents, told The Macau Post Daily. They added that the show was something that isn’t an everyday occurrence, offering the public a break from their daily routine, as well as possibly being an attraction for tourists from areas such as the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The couple added that shows in general could definitely “add value”, saying that people come to the city for a number of reasons like gambling, but events and entertainment with “added value” could “definitely pull the crowds”. They also remarked that shows and events such as Macau’s international dragon boat races, this week’s drone shows and the annual fireworks (which, however, have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic) were “helpful” in enabling businesses to grow and attract tourists to come, as well as offering people something to do other than gambling or staying at the integrated resorts.

Similarly, two Filipino residents surnamed Abuel, said that the show was exciting and unique, as well as offering “something new” to those in Macau beyond their daily activities such as work. Moreover, both said they thought that the shows could attract more visitors, while also pointing out that they are a “great idea”.

The show is “very special”, Liu, a 29-year-old local resident, pointed out. He said he thought that the shows are something that many people have been looking forward to after the unfavourable weather conditions that have delayed them. Liu also described the shows as “fascinating”, with members of the public bringing their families and friends to witness the event, which visitors might also do.

Meanwhile, local resident surnamed Hoi and her kids excitedly told The Macau Post Daily that they thought the show was great, pointing out their fascination with the 880 drones being used to create such a spectacle. It’s “magnificent”, one of her children remarked, it can be an attractive aspect for many.

Two more shows are slated to take place this weekend, which are themed “Golden Fall Delights” and “A Merry Winter”. Each will have two sessions, with the first starting at 8 p.m. and the second at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
