Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) Director Lau Wai Meng announced yesterday that two new stamp themes have been added to the bureau’s Issue Plan 2022.

Lau made the remarks during a press conference about new stamp releases at the CTT headquarters.

The two new stamps, namely “Transmac – 70 Years in Macau”, will be issued on November 8, and “130th Anniversary of Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society”, will be issued on November 22.

During the press conference, Lau announced that this month also two other sets of stamps will be issued, namely the “400th Anniversary of the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha” and “Contemporary Buildings”.

According to a statement on the CTT website, the “400th Anniversary of the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha” stamp includes a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet. The design adopts a modern and simple illustration style, with soft and calm colours, to bring out the feeling of tranquillity, sanctity and solemnity that the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha has conveyed over these 400 years, the statement points out.

The statement underlines that “Contemporary Buildings” comprises a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet, depicting five “exemplary” new contemporary buildings that were recently completed.

The five buildings are the Mong-Ha Sports Centre, the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), Qingmao border checkpoint, Macau-Hengqin border checkpoint, and the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex (Forum Macao Complex), the statement said.

Lau said that the bureau’s Issue Plan 2023 would be quite “conservative” – with a total number of 11 sets of philatelic products, as visitor numbers were down this year due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, adding that revenue from stamp sales this year had still not recovered to the level of the same period last year.

In addition, to mark the annual World Post Day on October 9, a temporary post counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office (GPO) in Largo do Senado and the shop of Communications Museum from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide a postmark cancellation service, while a commemorative envelope will be distributed to collectors.

Lau also announced that with the easing of the pandemic control measures, the bureau has shortened the sterilisation and retention time for mail sent to Macau from 72 hours to 24 hours to enable the public to receive parcels and mail faster. Lau added that the bureau will make “dynamic” adjustments in the future based on the developing situation.
