Police arrested on Friday three mainlanders involved in fabricating fake Slips of Authorisation to Stay (colloquially known as “slips”) with the purpose of allowing mainlanders to stay longer legally in Macau, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a special press conference yesterday.

Chan identified the suspects as Gu, a 32-year-old jobless man who overstayed in Macau for 17 days; You, a 53-year-old jobless man; and Wu, a female cleaner working in the mainland.

According to Chan, police officers intercepted Gu on Friday for a regular identification check in a Cotai casino, where they found that the slip presented by Gu looked bogus. Under questioning, Gu admitted buying four slips from You for 600 yuan (692 patacas) in total, while Wu was tasked with smuggling the slips from the mainland to Gu.

You was arrested in a hotel guestroom in Zape where he and Gu were staying, while Wu was arrested at the Barrier Gate checkpoint when she was about to leave Macau on the same day.

Wu told the police that she had smuggled slips for a gang in the mainland for mainlanders overstaying in Macau at least 12 times, receiving 80 yuan as payment each time. Chan noted that the gang required Wu and You to delete their WeChat conversations after each transaction to remove any trace.

The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing document forgery charges. You and Wu also face charges of organised crime and abetting overstaying, Chan said.
