The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) took its “Experience Macao, Unlimited” caravan roadshow to Foshan, aiming to attract residents from cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) to visit Macau, expand the city’s source of tourists and boost the recovery of the local tourism industry, according to an MGTO statement on Saturday.

The roadshow in Foshan was held at the weekend in the SunPark shopping centre, with its first post-pandemic stop in Guangzhou on February 18-19, its second stop in Jiangmen on February 25-26, its third stop in Huizhou on March 11-12, its fourth stop in Shenzhen on March 18-19, and the final stop to be in Zhaoqing in the near future, the statement noted.

Foshan lies some 100 kilometres northwest of Macau. The city has about 7.6 million inhabitants.

The statement quoted MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong as pointing out that Macau received 1.6 million tourists in February, which was a 1.4 times increase compared to last year, and among them, one million tourists were from the mainland.

During the roadshow in Foshan, the statement said, a caravan was set up with an on-site interactive area featuring a photography-spot-themed background, graffiti wall, interactive exhibition hall, game booths, parent-child workshops and a light-mapping performance, featuring venues that promoted Macau’s festivals, food, sports, wedding photography, and leisure travel.

The roadshow, which was held in Zhuhai and Zhongshan last year, had been suspended due to the local COVID-19 outbreak last June.

The GBA comprises the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau and nine cities in Guangdong – Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.
