The local observatory said yesterday that Macau recorded a temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius on October 4, the highest temperature recorded in the city in that month since 1952.

Yesterday’s statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) pointed out that three “very hot” days were recorded last month, indicating the second-highest number of hot days in the month of October recorded by the bureau since 1952 when it was set up.

Cumulative precipitation reached 295.4 millimetres (mm) last month, which was about four times the 30-year average for Macau, in which the cumulative daily rainfall on October 9 of 231.6 mm was the third wettest October in 71 years, according to the statement.

The weather station pointed out a large degree of connection between last month’s hot and rainy weather and Super Typhoon “Koinu”, the outer downdraft and cloud and rain bands of which resulted in the record temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius on October 4 and the daily cumulative rainfall of 231.6 mm on October 9.
