The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement yesterday that a viral message claiming that the temperature would drop to below zero degree Celsius on Chinese New Year’s Eve is false.
According to the statement, the message went viral on the internet, alleging that on Chinese New Year’s Eve (February 11) the temperature would drop to minus 2 degrees Celsius but on Chinese New Year’s Day the temperature would go back up to 13 degrees Celsius. The statement said that the prediction was “unreliable” and “did not make sense”. The bureau urged residents not to spread the false rumour and pay close attention to the bureau’s weather forecasts.
Moreover, the statement said that with the current scientific technology, it is still difficult to predict the temperature accurately for the next 10 days or more. The statement pointed out that as the weather is determined by a lot of unforeseeable conditions, it is still hard to predict temperatures in the distant future.
