Two cargo ships (Shun Xing X and De Xing X) crashed in the harbour near the Macau Science Centre in Nape on Saturday at 11 a.m., the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement, adding that De Xing X was seriously damaged which led to a fuel leak.

According to the statement, De Xing X was wrecked on the port side, while Shun Shin X was slightly damaged. The statement noted that there were a total of 12 crew members on board both ships and they were safely escorted to the bureau’s vessel. The statement added that none of the crews were unwell or injured.

The bureau released another statement on Saturday, saying the vessel that was seriously damaged and had a fuel leak. The bureau pointed out that its vessels had been soaking up the fuel, and the situation was under control later that day.

The statement said that the wrecked vessel was carrying steel, therefore the bureau needed to unload the cargo to another ship before salvaging the vessel.

According to the statement, the bureau is communicating with the ships’ companies and investigating the accident.

The government-owned broadcaster TDM said yesterday that Shun Xing was berthed near the Macau International Airport for safety reasons and the bureau was still working on the fuel leak situation.
