Galaxy’s volunteer team recently held a pre-Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at the Elderly Activity Centre of local charitable organisation Tung Sin Tong (TST), the gaming operator announced yesterday.

According to a statement by Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), the GEG Volunteer Team’s “Bring in the Ox with Respect and Warmth” celebration included the distribution of festive gift packs to the centre’s senior citizens.

During the visit, the volunteers also joined the elderly in interactive games that celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year – also known as Spring Festival – “and conveyed the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting and caring for the elderly,” the statement said.

The statement underlined that GEG, which is “committed to promoting a harmonious and inclusive community”, has been organising different activities “to spread love and care to different sectors of society.”

According to the statement, the GEG Volunteer Team visited more than 40 senior citizens at the centre, and arranged a number of enjoyable CNY activities, exercises and interactive games for them to enjoy.

The volunteers also prepared festive gift packs filled with healthy food items purchased from a local social enterprise, and a hand-knitted scarf.

In addition, several of the GEG volunteers wore CNY costumes to lift the festive spirit, the statement said. Besides, members of GEG’s Photography Club assisted the elderly in taking instant photos with mascots. The elderly wrote CNY couplets to express thanks and give them good wishes, the statement said.

The statement quoted one of the senior citizens, a woman surnamed Ao as saying that she was delighted to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a large group of young people, that she enjoyed spending time with them, and that she found them to be very considerate and thoughtful.

She expressed hope for a brighter and happier year filled with positive energy and more special activities for the elderly.

Alexander Yu, a GEG volunteer from the Food and Beverage Department, was quoted as saying that “GEG has always encouraged us to participate in volunteering activities and to extend our care to society. I am very happy to be here, and to enjoy this special day with these seniors and to spread love and warmth to them.”

“Living up to its pledge of ‘Making a Difference by Making a Commitment’, GEG collaborates with a number of social services and charitable organisations in Macau in organising different community and volunteering activities, such as elderly home visits and festive gifts, anti-pandemic supplies and disaster prevention materials deliveries, etc., to enable GEG team members to reach the community and extend care and support to the needy,” the statement said, adding that “moving forward, GEG will continue to spread love and care to the community by supporting and organising volunteering activities.”

Tung Sin Tong is one of Macau’s oldest and largest charitable organisations. It was set up in 1892. GEG is one of Macau’s major gaming, entertainment and integrated resort operators.
