Macau's composite consumer price index (CPI) in January dropped by 1.18 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Yesterday's DSEC statement attributed the decline to lower charges for package tours and telecommunications services, as well as lower prices of gasoline, fresh pork, clothing and footwear.

The statement pointed out that the CPI for last month showed a larger year-on-year decrease as the Chinese New Year fell on January last year, which led to a rise in the prices of certain goods and services at that time.

The composite CPI aims to reflect the impact of price changes on Macau's general households, according to the statement.
