The local gaming sector’s full-time employees’ average earnings – excluding bonuses – amounted to 23,440 patacas in December last year, a year-on-year decline of 4.9 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
According to the findings of the bureau’s fourth-quarter survey on the gaming sector’s manpower needs and wages, dealers’ average earnings dropped by 6.1 percent to 19,800 patacas in December.
At the end of last year, the gaming sector had 56,613 full-time employees, a decrease of 1,612 year-on-year. The number of dealers decreased by 295 year-on-year to 25,164, accounting for 44.4 percent of the sector’s total number of employees.
The bureau pointed out that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector’s number of vacancies fell by 417 year-on-year to just 26 at the end of 2020.
In the fourth quarter of last year, only 174 new employees were hired by the sector, a year-on-year declined of 86.6 percent. The employee recruitment rate (0.3 percent) and employee turnover rate (1.0 percent) went down by 1.9 and 0.8 percentage points respectively, while the job vacancy rate fell to near zero, the statement said.
“These indicators reflected a substantial decline in the demand for manpower in the gaming sector,” the bureau said.
