“Art Macao” and “2021 hush! Summer Concerts”, both organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), are looking for local artists, bands, musicians and products from the creative industries, according to two separate IC statements yesterday.

One of the statements said that the mega cultural and artistic event “Art Macao” will be held from June to October this year after a one-year hiatus. The statement said that this year’s event will include “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” and a programme of local exhibitions, aiming to provide an international exchange platform for Macau artists. Therefore, the bureau is calling for local visual art artists’ participation.

The statement said that Qiu Zhijie from the Central Academy of Fine Arts serves as the chief curator of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”. The statement pointed out that the exhibition is themed “Advance and retreat of globalisation”, which reviews globalisation during the COVID-19 pandemic through various forms of visual arts. The statement said that the bureau aimed to continuously promote Macau’s cultural image, facilitate the development of local arts and motivate the growth of Macau’s cultural industries.

According to the statement, applicants must hold a Macau Resident Identity Card (BIR), aged 18 or above, and have held two or more solo exhibitions. The statement noted that the applicants can apply as individuals or in groups. The statement added that applicants’ work must be an original unpublished work completed after 2019. Categories for submitted works are graphic, three-dimensional, and multimedia creations.

The application period runs from March 23 to 28, while the artwork submission date runs from May 14 to 16.

2021 hush! Summer Concerts

The other IC statement said that “2021 hush! Summer Concerts” will be held from June 26 to July 11 at coastal performance sites, such as the Macau Science Centre Square, Navy Yard No. 2, and Ponte 9 Rooftop.

According to the statement, the event this year will feature a “hush! Kids” stage for the first time, in addition to a number of concerts, thematic performances, booths, installation art, and online music competitions.

The statement said that the bureau is now calling for the participation of local bands and musicians in the “2021 hush! Summer Concerts” and is recruiting cultural creative companies or individuals to jointly develop “hush” branded products. The bureau said that all local bands, musicians and related entities are welcome to participate in the event to promote Macau’s pop music culture.

The statement pointed out that this year’s concerts will be divided into three categories – “Hot Wave”, “Upbeat Power” and “Summer Chill”. The statement also said that the “hush! Kids” will also be featured for bands formed by members with an average age of 12 or under.

According to the statement, for the “Music Workshop”, anyone interested can self-nominate or nominate instructors to teach pop music-related knowledge and share their experience, providing opportunities for music experts to learn from each other.

The statement said that another event, “Themed Music Development”, invites local bands, musicians and curators to stage thematic performances and to promote pop music culture in Macau.

The bureau is also looking for partners for crossover products for “hush! Products x Creative Industries”. The statement said that the selected partners will be authorised to use the ‘hush!’ trademark as a “cultural and creative partner”, produce and sell crossover products by assuming sole responsibility for their own profits and losses. The bureau will also set up booths to sell products at designated areas of the concert venues this year.

Applications for local musicians will be open from March 11 to 30, while the application for hush! Products x Creative Industries” runs from March 11 to April 12.
