Macau’s 119 hotels and guesthouses welcomed 694,000 guests last month, a year-on-year increase of 550.3 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement yesterday.
The number of mainland guests and staycationers rose by 761.2 percent and 149.3 percent to 603,000 and 61,000 respectively.
Staycationers accounted for 8.7 percent of all guests in April.
Guests’ average length of stay fell by 0.6 night year-on-year to 1.6 nights.
Available guestrooms increased by 10.5 percent year-on-year to 37,000 last month.
Data on hotels and guesthouses used for quarantine purposes in April were excluded from the compilation of the sector’s statistics.
In the first four months, guestrooms’ average occupancy rate was 48.4 percent, up by 13.8 percent year-on-year.
The number of guests grew by 36.1 percent year-on-year to 2.148 million in the first four months of the year.
The statement noted that there were no inbound package tour visitors in April when the number of visitors joining local tours stood at 11,000.
