Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told reporters yesterday that according to the number of visitor arrivals in the first five months of the year, she expected seven to eight million visitor arrivals this year.
Senna Fernandes made the remarks on the sidelines of a public event at Na Tcha Temple near the Ruins of St. Paul’s.
According to Senna Fernandes, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in Guangdong province in June, the daily average of visitor arrivals dropped to around 15,000 to 16,000. Senna Fernandes said she hoped that during the summer holiday the number of visitor arrivals can return to the same level as it was in April and May.
Meanwhile, when asked about the second phase of the MGTO “Stay, Dine and See Macao”, Senna Fernandes said that up to yesterday there were about 10,000 people signed up for the scheme, adding that had around 20,000 people signed up for the first phase. She also noted that over 10,000 staycation packages were sold for the second phase up to yesterday.
Senna Fernades also said that the helicopter itinerary was the most well received route, while the boat trip and the family workshops also have a lot of signups. She stressed that due to the high frequency of local tours that are taking place in July and August, MGTO will pay close attention to residents’ feedback on the local tours and consider adding new features for the third phase of the project starting in September.
