The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday that the temporary custody of a 13-year-old Portuguese girl on Monday, due to her inability to produce any identification document, was lawful.
The statement was made in response to a story reported yesterday by some local media.
The statement said that during an ID inspection at the bus terminus in Praça de Ferreira do Amaral on Monday, the police stopped the teenage girl and asked for her ID. As the girl wasn’t able to speak Cantonese, the police officers spoke to her in English.
