The public Macau Foundation (FM) premiered a special film yesterday in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The CPC was founded in July 1921 – and 1921 is the film’s title.
According to a statement by the public foundation, the film will be shown at local cinemas from Thursday.
FM President Wu Zhiliang said in a speech yesterday during the premiere at Galaxy Grand Theatre that 1921 is a significant turning point in Chinese history, adding that it the film portrays a story fuelled with energy, passion and youthfulness. He stressed that it’s a film about a group of youths full of dreams and determination, standing up for the country and its people. He also said that the film portrays a group of people “using their life and blood” in exchange for “the happiness and peacefulness of the people”. He said that the aim of the film is to inspire residents, especially the younger generation, and to resonate with Chinese history.
Guests such as Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the first chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and current vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) Vice Chairman Francis Lui Yiu-tong attended the film’s premiere.
The statement said that the film will be shown at local cinemas until July 21. Apart from Galaxy Cinemas, the film will also be shown by Teatro Alegria (Wing Lok) close to Kiang Wu Hospital.
1921 is a historical film directed by Huang Jianxin and Zheng Dasheng and starring Huang Xuan, Ni Ni, Wang Renjun, Liu Haoran, Chen Kun, Li Chen, Zhang Songwen, Liu Shishi, and Zhou Ye.
The 137-minute film tells the story of the founding of the CPC at its 1st National Congress held in Shanghai.The film premiered in mainland China last Thursday, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the CPC.
The Putonghua film was co-produced by Shanghai Film Group, Tencent Pictures, China Film Co. Ltd. and Huaxia Film Distribution.
