An exhibition entitled “Implicit Memory” (內隱記憶) by local artist Lei Chek On (李植安) is being held at the Art For All Society (AFA) gallery, organised by AFA and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).

According to a statement on the AFA website, exhibition curator Alice Kok Tim Hei points out that the exhibition is Lei’s first solo exhibition, and it is the second part of AFA’s 2021 annual project “Healing Colours” – Young Artists Exhibition Series.

According to Kok’s statement, Lei was born in Guangdong in 1994 and moved to Macau in 2013. He graduated from the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) with a bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts in Sculpture in 2017. In the same year, Lei joined the Macau Art For All Society (AFA) and participated in the Macau Autumn Salon and the Macau AFA 11th Anniversary exhibition in 2018.

Kok points out that the exhibition consists of a series about various issues affecting civil society. Lei considers the relationship between one’s outlook on life and universal values as his artistic path, according to Kok.

Kok underlines that Lei takes the current social affairs as a first step and applies implicit and abstract techniques to narrate his viewpoint through his artwork which Kok describes as his “implicit memory”.

The exhibition runs until July 22 at AFA Macau on the 1st floor gallery of Tak Chun Macau Art Garden at 265 Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues. It is open daily (except Sundays and public holidays) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the gallery need to wear a facemask.
