Local artist Liang Wannian discovered last year that a mainland sculptor had taken credit for his jade sculpture for 11 years, Ou Mun Tin Toi, the Chinese-language radio station of public broadcaster TDM, reported yesterday.

According to the report, the worker who fraudulently claimed that the sculpture was created by him had helped Liang create it. The report said that after Liang found out that the worker had been taking credit for his work for 11 years on a number of television shows and websites in the mainland, he decided to file a copyright infringement case to the court in Zhaoqing, Guangdong province. The report said that Liang recently won the case and received 80,000 yuan in compensation from the culprit.

The report said that 12 years ago Liang donated his jade sculpture to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, adding that only last year did Liang find out that the sculptor in the mainland – who had once worked for him – had been taking credit for his artwork.
