Macau’s visitor arrivals rose 2,243 percent year-on-year to 528,519 last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
However, the bureau pointed out a statement, the figure represented a decrease of 39.0 percent month-on-month on account of the reinforced COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures in Guangdong and Macau in early June.
Consequently, same-day visitors (313,441) and overnight visitors (215,078) dropped 20.1 percent and 54.6 month-on-month respectively.
Meanwhile, visitors’ average length of stay dropped by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.9 days) falling by 2.7 days whereas that of same-day visitors (0.1 day) remaining unchanged.
Mainland visitors surged by 2,140 percent year-on-year to 471,935, with 120,604 of them travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) totalled 246,673, of whom 70.0 percent were from Zhuhai. Besides, there were 52,296 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,213 from Taiwan.
Foreign nationals have been barred from entering Macau since March 2020.
The number of visitor arrivals by land grew 1,904 percent year-on-year to 449,776 in June, 87.8 of whom arrived through the Barrier Gate checkpoint. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 69,390 and 9,353 respectively.
In the first half of the year, visitor arrivals rose 20.2 percent year-on-year to 3.9 million. Overnight visitors (2,058,657) and same-day visitors (1,869,172) increased 33.2 percent and 8.5 percent year-on-year respectively. Visitors’ average length of stay grew by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.6 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.9 days) rose by 0.2 day whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) went down by 0.1 day.
