Vendors at this weekend’s Sands Shopping Carnival told The Macau Post Daily yesterday that they had been “busy” throughout the three-day event.
The three-day Sands Shopping Carnival at the Venetian Cotai ended last night.
A male chef, who preferred to be known as M, at a booth that served dumpling and other traditional Chinese dishes, told The Macau Post Daily while boiling dumplings that he did not feel any difference between last year’s and this year’s event, adding that he “is always this busy”. He said that there was an even spread of Cantonese and Putonghua speakers at his booth.
Lam, a female handicraft vendor, also said that there were many people at the carnival. She said that in the previous years she attended craft markets in Tap Seac and the Sands Shopping Carnival was more crowded than the other craft markets. She said that this time she made an “ideal” number of sales and most of her customers were Cantonese speakers.
However, Macau PLOPS’ representatives said that even though more visitors were at the carnival, they did not make as many sales as last year. However, they agreed that there were more people than when they set up their booth at other events. One of the representatives said that there was a “noticeable” increase in tourists at the event. PLOPS sells Portuguese products.
A female shopper, surnamed Chu, said that there seemed to be more booths this year as well as more food options. She said that she was happy with the selections and she bought some yogurts “for a great price”.
