In an attempt to further promote the city’s Taoist ritual music, which was inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2011, the Macau Taoist Association has invited the Hunan Taoist Orchestra to hold a joint music concert with the Macau Taoist Orchestra.

Macau Taoist Association representatives including its president Ng Peng Chi held a press conference at the group’s headquarters near the Red Market yesterday to announce the group’s raft of activities to promote the Macau style of Taoist music.

According to the group, the free concert will start at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, one of Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. The concert will last for two hours and a total of 12 pieces of ritual music will be performed. Local school choirs will be singing various chapters of the Tao Te Ching.
