BEIJING – Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau will host the 15th National Games in 2025, according to a latter released by the State Council yesterday.
It will be the first time for Hong Kong and Macau to host the Games, while Guangdong has been the host twice in 1987 and 2001.
The governments of Guangdong province, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR “shall follow the principles of simple, safe and splendid, take full advantage of the existing facilities, carry out strict budget management, and spare no efforts to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic for the success of the 15th National Games,” the letter said.
Meanwhile, Macau’s Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement last night that Guangdong province and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau began to study the feasibility of co-hosting the National Games in the wake of the 13th National Games in Tianjin in 2017.
The statement said that Guangdong and the two special administrative regions came to the conclusion that they would be able to co-host the event and, consequently, submitted their joint proposal to the General Administration of Sport in Beijing.
According to the statement, the Sports Bureau will release details about the co-hosting arrangements in due course. – Xinhua / MPD
