The 39th Macau Young Musicians Competition, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has ended, according to a statement by the bureau on Wednesday.
The statement said that IC President Mok Ian Ian, Performing Arts Development Department Chief Iu Wai Man and Performing Arts Division Chief Chou Wai In presented the awards at a recent ceremony.
According to the statement, this year’s competition opted for the “online assessment of recorded performances and announcement of competition results” due to the novel coronavirus.
The statement noted that the competition was held from July 11 to July 27 at the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), in which a total of 31 competitions in 17 categories were held. The statement underlined that a widespread response was received, with the participation of over 1,400 people, nearly double compared with the previous piano category competition.
The piano competition is held every other year with a mixed instrument competition held in the year in between.
The winners (individuals or groups) from each category competed for four special prizes, specifically “Best Ensemble Performance”, “Best Performance in Elementary Category”, “Best Performance in Intermediate Category”, and the “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize”, according to the statement.
The statement listed the awardees as follows: Choi Long Cheng for the “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize”, Focus Shi Hoi Ho for “Best Performance in Intermediate Category”, Alisha Cheong Chi Ioi for “Best Performance in Elementary Category”, and Gao U Hoi and Si Tou Pui Ieng for “Best Ensemble Performance.”
