Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre confirmed today the special administrative region's 64th COVID-19 case, a 31-year-old local resident holding Turkish nationality.
According to a statement by the centre, the resident arrived in Macau via Singapore from Turkey last Saturday. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus last night.
The statement pointed out that the resident had tested negative for the disease upon his arrival here and that the result of his antibody test was normal for someone who had been vaccinated against COVID-19.
After arriving in Macau the man immediately started regular quarantine at a local hotel where he tested positive for COVID-19 last night. The statement pointed out that the patient's high cycle threshold (CT) value indicated that the case is a new infection.
The patient has been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation and treatment, the statement said.
The case has been classified as imported.
All of Macau's 64 COVID-19 cases since January 22 last year have been classified by the Health Bureau as imported or linked to imported cases, including a recent four-member Delta variant family cluster. No COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in Macau.
Since March last year foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macau have been barred from entering Macau. Exceptions from the ban have been rarely granted.
Commentators have described Macau as a COVID-19 oasis.
