A meeting between Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and Zhuhai Municipal Government officials last night decided to extend the mandatory quarantine restriction on Macau residents until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, a Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) statement said yesterday.
According to the statement, Ho arrived in Macau from the 14th National Games in Xi’an yesterday and directly went to the Civil Protection Operations Centre in Pac On for a meeting by video link with Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhuhai Municipal Committee Secretary Guo Yonghang, Zhuhai Mayor Huang Zhihao, Zhuhai Vice Mayor Zhang Yisheng and other officials from Macau and Zhuhai. The statement noted that both sides discussed topics such as new COVID-19 prevention and control measures and mandatory quarantine regulations.
The statement said that the meeting concluded that the current COVID-19 prevention and control measures, such as people entering Zhuhai from Macau having to undergo 14 days quarantine, will be extended until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. The statement said that the mandatory quarantine rule was originally slated to have ended at 11:59 p.m. yesterday but the officials concluded that they should extend it for another 48 hours.
Macau confirmed four new COVID-19 cases yesterday. Zhuhai’s China Airshow 2021 started yesterday. The important aviation event is scheduled to end of Sunday.
The mandatory quarantine rule was imposed by Zhuhai on Sunday at 6 a.m. after Macau had confirmed three new COVID-19 cases between Friday and Saturday, including two cases connected to an imported case.
Prior to the new rule, people who held a 24-hour negative nucleic acid test (NAT) were allowed to cross the border quarantine-free between Saturday 6 a.m. and Sunday 5:59 a.m.
