SJM Resorts is hosting an exhibition titled “Harmony of East and West – The Exhibition by Famous Local Artists” at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (GLP) in Cotai, according to a SJM statement.

The exhibition’s theme revolves around the “East meets West” theme.

The exhibition features work by Ambrose So Shu-fai (蘇樹輝), Carlos Marreiros, Guilherme Ung Vai Meng (吳衛鳴), Konstantin Bessmertny, Denis Murrell, Erik Fok (霍凱盛) and Cai Guo-jie (蔡國傑).

According to the statement, their works aim to unleash people’s imagination and create awareness around people’s lives, showcasing Macau’s unique role as a platform for Sino-Western cultural exchange.

The exhibits include “Humility Scroll” (謙卦) by So, which focuses on the virtues of true humility. “Serene Dawn of Tomorrow” (明亮曙光的明天) and “Macau Glory” (澳門榮耀) by Marreiros, one of which features three iconic Macau landmarks, while the other shows scenes of Macau from the 16th century to the present day. Ung has created a mixed media panel entitled: “Auspicious Stars Shine Over the Ruins of Saint Paul” (瑞星耀濠江), whose façade is backed with Portuguese azulejos (tin-glazed ceramic tilework) and oyster shells.

Furthermore, Bessmertny presents “E. meets W.” (東境西探) and “W. meets E.” (西境東探), playing with the ideas of “The East as seen by the West” and “The West as seen by the East”. Murrell’s diverse works “Untitled I and II” (無題一,無題二) feature acrylic mixed media and guide the viewers’ gaze upwards, while Fok has created two drawings “Paradise” (樂園——上葡京) and “Paradise-Ships on the Oriental Coast” (樂園——海島東帆) underlining the fusion between past and present. Cai’s paintings include “Octagonal Pavilion Library” (八角亭圖書館) and “View of Lisbon, Portugal” (里斯本遠眺), which show two cultures becoming one.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.

The exhibition is on display from next month at GLP in Rua do Tiro, Cotai (adjacent to the Macau East Asian Games Dome) with free admission.
