Macau's general unemployment rate in the June-August survey period dipped 0.1 percentage points from the May-July period to 2.8 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a DSEC statement this week, local residents' jobless rate dropped 0.2 percentage points to 3.7 percent.
The general unemployment rate comprises local residents and non-resident workers
Most non-resident workers are from the Chinese mainland, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar.
The labour force living in Macau stood at 387,000. Total employment was 376,300, while the number of unemployed dropped by 400 from the previous survey period to 10,600.
The number of employed residents amounted to 279,600, up by 4,600.
While employment in the gaming, junket and restaurant sectors increased, the number of jobs in wholesale and retail decreased, the statement pointed out.
The number of underemployed rose by 1,000 to 14,400, mostly affecting employees in the gaming, junket and construction sectors.
Based on immigration records, an average of 83,900 local residents and non-resident workers worked in Macau but lived outside the special administrative region (SAR) in the June-August period.
Macau's total labour force - comprising those living in and outside the SAR (mostly in the adjacent mainland city of Zhuhai) - amounted to 470,900, an increase of 4,000 from the previous survey.
Macau's population stood at 680,500 at the end of June, according to an earlier DSEC statement.
