Macau's 37 casinos operating last month generated 5.879 billion patacas (US$733 million) in gross gaming revenue, a year-on-year growth of 165.9 percent, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) announced today.
Month-on-month, receipts were up by 32.3 percent.
However, last month's takings were the second lowest this year, after August's 4.44 billion patacas. The month of May recorded this year's highest revenues, at 10.44 billion patacas.
In the first nine months of the year, gross gaming revenues rose 75.6 percent to 67.78 billion patacas.
Macau's gaming receipts have been severely affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2019, i.e., before the outbreak of the pandemic, Macau's casinos recorded 22.0 billion patacas in gross gaming receipts.
Macau's COVID-19 tally stands at 71. The special administrative region confirmed its first novel coronavirus case in January last year. No fatalities have been reported.
Foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macau have been barred from entry since March last year. However, compatriots from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have been allowed to enter Macau but only under a raft of COVID-19 control and prevention measures that are being adjusted periodically.
