A man from the mainland was arrested last Tuesday for touching a woman’s breast in Iao Hon district on the previous day, according to a statement of the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday.
The suspect, who is in his forties, is a non-resident worker.
According to the statement, a woman reported to the Public Security Police on Monday that a male stranger touched her breast when she walked along Rua Um do Bairro Iao Hon with a female friend. She told the police that a man stopped them and asked for directions. The man suddenly grabbed her friend’s right hand and told her to take him to where he wanted to go.
The victim’s friend repeatedly refused, but the man continued to grip her hand, and the victim intervened and separated the man and her friend. The suspect suddenly touched her right breast and the victim warned him that she would call the police. The suspect immediately ran away.
The statement said that the Public Security Police scrutinised the neighbourhood’s CCTV footage and identified the suspect who was arrested on the next day in Avenida de Governador Jaime Silvério Marques. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime. He told the police that he had dinner and had been drinking with a friend near Iao Hon Municipal Market. He wanted to return to his workplace after dinner but did not know how to get there and asked the two women for directions. The suspect claimed that he touched them but did not do it intentionally because he was drunk.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to the statement.
