The Macau government urged its over 32,000 civil servants to stay at home until Friday in the wake of the city's four newly confirmed COVID-19 cases since yesterday.
According to a statement by the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) this morning, civil servant are not required to go to work from today until Thursday to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The government launched Macau's third citywide mandatory nucleic acid testing programme yesterday. Three three-day drive is scheduled to end at 9 p.m. on Thursday. The tests are free of charge and will cover the whole population.
The SAFT statement said that civil service chiefs are required to ensure the normal functioning of their respective bureaus and other government entities during the three-day period.
The bureau urged civil servants to stay at home as much as possible and to go out only in "urgent and necessary situations".
Civil servants account for nearly 7 percent of Macau's workforce, according to official statistics.
