The Macau government today ordered Macau's entertainment venues  - but not the city's over three dozen casinos - to close from 0:00 tomorrow to prevent the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus.

The order was published in the Official Gazette (BO) this morning.

According to the order, a wide range of entertainment businesses are affected by the measure such as cinemas, indoor playgrounds, amusement arcades, internet cafes, snooker halls, bowling alleys, saunas, massage parlours, beauty salons, gyms, karaoke and other bars, nightclubs, discos, and ballrooms.

The order did not indicate a timeline for the measure.

It is the third time since last year that due to the COVID-19 risk the government has decided to temporarily close the city's entertainment businesses.

However, all of the city's casinos were only closed temporarily early last year. Government officials have pointed out that casinos have meanwhile implemented strict COVID-19 control and prevention measures.
