A Filipino was arrested last Thursday for stealing a MACAU Pass and spending about 500 patacas with it last week, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The suspect is a non-resident worker in his thirties.
According to the statement, the Public Security Police received a report last week from a citizen who had lost his or her MACAU Pass. The statement did not reveal the citizen’s gender.
The citizen discovered that after he or she had lost the smartcard there had been multiple purchases totalling 500 patacas. The victim then began to suspect that the card had been stolen and someone was using it. The victim then reported the case to the police.
The statement said that PSP officers scrutinised CCTV footage of locations where someone had used the card. They arrested the suspect last Thursday in a building in Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita in Taipa. Under questioning, the Filipino suspect admitted to stealing the card and using it for his own benefit.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to the statement, which did not explain where or how the suspect found or stole the card.
