A non-resident worker from the mainland was arrested for illegally sheltering his father who was arrested for illegally re-entering Macau, and both were arrested for making false statements, Public Security Police (PSP) Lam Keong said at a press conference yesterday.
The two suspects are surnamed Yu. The son in his thirties works as a renovator while his 53-year-old jobless father re-entered Macau illegally by boat from Zhuhai in late July.
According to Lam, while PSP officers were on patrol duty in Estrada da Areia Preta on Thursday morning, they saw a man (the father) riding a scooter and stopped him for crossing the double white line. The man told the police that he borrowed the scooter from his son and showed them a Hong Kong driving licence.
Lam said that PSP officers discovered that the man (the father) had no Macau entry record and that he was caught in 2011 for illegally entering Macau. The officers found out that the suspect’s identity information was inconsistent with his previous record, indicating that he had provided false information. He then told the police that he had paid 10,000 yuan in late July to a human-smuggling gang to arrange his illegal entry into Macau by boat. He intended to gamble in local casinos, but was unable to enter the premises as he could not provide the local health code.
The officers told the suspect’s son to report to the police on the same day. The officers discovered that the son was booked for a case of driving without a licence in 2017, and according to police records the son had also reported false information about his personal data to the police, according to Lam.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Each faces a charge of providing false information about their personal data. The son also faces an illegal sheltering charge while his father faces a charge of illegal re-entry into Macau, according to Lam.
