The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement last week that visitor arrivals have steadily increased, with average daily visitor arrivals exceeding 25,000 between 20 – 28 October and registering the highest single-day record of 28,299 visitor arrivals since the recent easing of COVID-19 curbs last Tuesday.

The statement noted that the city’s visitor arrivals had declined since September 25 with the introduction of the state of immediate prevention and the tightening of measures against COVID-19. However, the statement added that as restrictions at the border checkpoints between Zhuhai and Macau were eased on October 19, MGTO has been promoting Macau as a “safe and quality destination” for visitors from the mainland through social media platforms including WeChat, Weibo, Red and TikTok, and through different promotional initiatives.

The statement underlined that through these promotional activities and the steadying of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, a rebound in visitor arrivals has been recorded.

The statement pointed out that MGTO continuously focuses on promoting Macau online and highlighting mega events, which, along with offers from the “Scheme to Expand Visitor Sources”, had led to an “enthusiastic feedback from mainland netizens” and garnered their interest in visiting Macau.

The statement noted that more mega events and community activities are slated to take place in the coming months including the Grand Prix and Food Festival in November, and MGTO’s Macau Light Festival and the Light up Macau Drone Gala in December. Moreover, the Grand Prix Museum will organise 16 sessions of “parent-and-child Little Racers DIY Workshops” on weekends in November for the 68th Macau Grand Prix.
