A local couple was arrested in the city centre on Thursday for selling drugs, and police seized drugs with an estimated market value of 80,000 patacas from them, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a special press conference on Friday.
The two are a 27-year-old jobless man surnamed Fei and his 33-year-old wife surnamed Cheang, who told the police that she works as a beautician.
According to Lei, the Judiciary Police had recently received a tip-off that a local man was selling cannabis at night entertainment venues. PJ officers identified Fei as the suspect and arrested him and his wife in the city centre on Thursday night. The officers later searched their home in the neighbourhood and seized a quantity of drugs – cannabis weighing 39.52 grammes, 34.9 grammes of a powder suspected of containing cannabis, 3.8 grammes of cannabis cream, cannabis oil weighing approximately 87.50 grammes (including the containers), happy powder weighing 1.32 grammes and 21 LSD “drug stamps”, totalling an estimated market value of 80,000 patacas. Some drug taking paraphernalia and drug-packaging items were also found in the flat.
Under questioning, Fei admitted that he has drug habit, but refused to reveal where he got the drugs. He only told the police that he purchased the drugs a few months ago from a drug dealer for several thousand patacas. The officers believe that Fei had been selling drugs for at least two to three weeks. The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation to trace the origin of the drugs.
The couple were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Friday. Both face a drug trafficking charge while Fei also faces drug abuse and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia charges, according to Lei.
