With the support of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the UNESCO World Heritage sites Guia Fortress and the Mandarin’s House are providing virtual reality (VR) tours, according to a statement from the bureau.
The statement pointed out that the public can access a 360-degree “cloud tour” by scanning a designated QR code, or visiting the respective pages of the two sites available at www.wh.mo/en or www.culturalheritage.mo/en/, adding that virtual guided tours are available in Cantonese, Putonghua, Portuguese, and English.
The statement said that the virtual tours will enable the public to experience two different types of modes, which are the “Interactive Scenic Area” and the “Interactive Exhibits” online, at their own pace by clicking on the mouse or tapping the screen to have a 360-degree panoramic view of sites. The statement added that the public may also browse “architectural details and high-definition photos of the exhibits”, as well listen to audio tours and read the written explanations.
The statement emphasised that the bureau will continue to promote the incorporation of “cultural heritage resources with technology”, as well as further investigating the use of online navigation functions for other World Heritage sites to “develop the cultural promotion and educational content of the World Heritage of Macau”, as well as offer participants “a richer, more diverse and interesting cultural experience”.
The statement noted that the VR tour for the Mandarin’s House can be accessed by logging into the website at vr.icm.gov.mo/wh/mandarinhouse, while the tour for the Guia Fortress can be found by visiting vr.icm.gov.mo/wh/guia.
